Requirements and Eligibility of the CrFA® Program
The Certified Forensic Accountant (CrFA®) designation is designed for professionals who aspire to excel in forensic accounting, fraud detection, and financial investigation. The Institute of Certified Forensic Accountants (ICFA) ensures that candidates meet specific educational and professional standards to maintain the quality and credibility of the CrFA® designation.
Eligibility Criteria for the CrFA® Program Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is strongly recommended. Degrees in law, business administration, or economics may also be considered if the candidate has relevant experience in financial or forensic analysis.
- Professional Experience: Candidates with significant professional experience in auditing, fraud examination, or forensic accounting may qualify without a degree, subject to review by ICFA.
- Fresh Graduates: Fresh graduates may consider joining the program, but they must undergo further assessment.
- Professional Experience: Candidates are encouraged to have at least two years of relevant work experience in fields such as auditing, forensic accounting, fraud investigation, compliance, or financial analysis. Experience in litigation support, regulatory enforcement, or consulting roles is also considered.
Professionals who have already earned certifications such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), or CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) may have an advantage in fulfilling the experience requirements and may also be eligible for the grandfathering provision. - Ethical Standards: All applicants must demonstrate a commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards in forensic accounting. Applicants must agree to adhere to the ICFA Code of Professional Conduct, which emphasizes integrity, transparency, and professionalism in all financial investigations.

Complete the online application form on the ICFA website and provide required documentation, including proof of education and professional experience. - Enrollment in the CrFA® Program
Upon acceptance, candidates may enroll in the CrFA® Program, gaining access to study materials, courses, and exam preparation resources. - Pass the CrFA® Examination
After completing the necessary coursework, candidates must pass the CrFA® examination to obtain the designation.
